Bestowed Existence :: essays research papers
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/vaksam/">Sam Vaknin's Psychology, Philosophy, Economics and Foreign Affairs Web Sites Blades and forks are objects outer to us. They have a goal - or if nothing else an intersubjective - presence. Probably, they will be there regardless of whether nobody watches or uses them until kingdom come. We can securely call them "Objective Entities". Our feelings and musings can be imparted - yet they are NOT simply the correspondence or its substance. They are "Subjective Entities", interior, subordinate upon the presence of one spectator - us. However, shouldn't something be said about numbers? The main, for example, has no goal, eyewitness free status. I am not alluding to the main as descriptor, as in "one apple". I am alluding to it as an independent substance. As an element it appears to remain solitary somehow or another (it's out there) - and be emotional in different ways (subordinate upon spectators). Numbers have a place with a third class: "Bestowed Entities". These are substances whose presence is presented to them by social understanding between cognizant specialists. However, this definition is so wide and comprehensive that it may be viewed as pointless. Religion and cash are two instances of elements which owe their reality to a social understanding between cognizant substances - yet they don't strike us as all inclusive and out there (objective) as numbers do. Without a doubt, this differentiation is relevant and our definition ought to be refined in like manner. We should recognize "Social Entities" (like cash or religion) from "Bestowed Entities". The last mentioned - as a glaring difference to the previous - are not all inclusive, they re reliant on the general public, culture and period that gave them birth. Not so with numbers. Numbers are Platonic thoughts which appear through a demonstration of cognizant understanding between ALL the operators equipped for agreeing. While cognizant specialists can contend about the estimation of cash (read, about its reality) and about the presence of God - no objective, cognizant operator can have a contention with respect to the main. Obviously, the gave substance classification appears to liberate itself from the interminable polarity of inside versus outer. It is both and easily so. However, this is just a hallucination. The polarity continues. The gave element is interior to the gathering of consenting cognizant levelheaded operators - however it is outer to any single specialist (person). As such, a gathering of reasonable cognizant specialists is sure to give presence on the main.

Lawmakers had to sign this bill c. No taking care of issues ââ¬Å"Letââ¬â¢s trust we are largely well off and resigned by this place of cards faltersâ⬠(Bloombe rg, 2007). The acknowledge emergency is known as the ââ¬Å"House of Cardsâ⬠, for a considerable length of time the financial business has changed numerous American lives, which has brought about an irksome economy. Numerous elements prompted the acknowledge emergency, for example, the ascent and fall of the lodging market, and wrong FICO assessments assisted with making the sub-prime home loan emergency (Issues and Controversies, 2010).Low financing costs grew simple credit, in which individuals could get a home loan and Mastercards dependent on incorrect FICO scores with the making of sub-prime home loans. Individuals can possess a home, with no up front installment or fixed salary. In August of 2007, the United States started lost trust in securitized contracts, which brought about the Federal Reserve infusing $20 trillion dollars into the money related markets to facilitate the circumstance (ââ¬Å"Obama Sends Warning to Big Banks, 2010).The most significant inquiry to be r eplied in the decade is ââ¬Å"How lost $500 billion dollars from the sub-prime home loan brought about a $20 trillion dollar misfortune in value esteems and a whole stun to the worldââ¬â¢s budgetary systemâ⬠(Woellert and Kopecki, 2007). The United States government ought not have given the budgetary foundations bailout cash, on the grounds that money related organizations utilizing provisos in the framework to exploit their customers, monetary establishments tasks have remained the equivalent, and the governmentââ¬â¢s conviction of a tree advertise economy conflicts with the bailout. The credit emergency is a ââ¬Å"worldwide monetary disaster, which coming about because of sub-prime home loans, Collateralized Debit Obligations, Frozen credit markets, and credit default swapsâ⬠(Jarvis, 2009). The credit emergency unites two individuals, individuals on Main Street and speculators. The individuals on Main Street speak to their home loans or houses, while financial sp ecialists speak to their cash, which likewise speaks to huge establishments, for example, benefits reserves, insurance agencies, shared assets; sovereign assets (Jarvis, 2009). These gatherings brought through the budgetary framework, made out of banks and representatives on Wall Street. As a consequence of the September eleventh assault, Chairman Allen Greenspan brought loan fees just down to 1%, to permit credit to stream; be that as it may, financial specialists have a low quantifiable profit (Snow, 2008). By bringing down financing costs, it takes into account banks to just acquire cash from the Federal Government for 1% in addition to the surpluses from the Asian and Middle East market, which makes getting cash simple for banks and to permit influence (Adding up the Governmentââ¬â¢s Total Bailout Tab, 2009). The meaning of influence is, ââ¬Å"borrowing cash to enhance the result of a dealâ⬠and is a significant way banks bring in their cash (Princeton University, 2010). Wall Street takes out a dominant part of advances and uses influence for their potential benefit, and an overwhelming progression of capital comes in. In which return, they take care of their unique venture. The speculators notice that Wall Street is bringing in cash exceptionally quick, and they need to make another item to offer to Wall Street. The home loan interfaces the home purchaser with a home loan moneylender on Wall Street who gives them a home loan, which is extraordinary in light of the fact that lodging costs all through America have been rising (ââ¬Å"Bailed out banksâ⬠, 2010).The home loan bank gets a call from a venture financier who needs to purchase the home loan; and the bank offers it to him, and the speculation intermediaries purchases a huge number of home loans. Consistently the venture investor gets the installments from all the home loans that he bought from the container and cuts the case into three cuts ââ¬Å"Safe, Ok and Riskyâ⬠, and afterward he packs the cuts into the case and considers it a Collateralized obligation commitment or ââ¬Å"CDOâ⬠(Woellert and Kopecki, 2007).However, avarice has ascended to the speculation broker and wantsââ¬â¢ more home loans; be that as it may, the moneylender doesn't have further home loans to sell, since each and every individual who has equipped for a home loan as of now has one; and the introduction of the sub-prime home loan is conceived. With a standard credit, the mortgage holder needed to demonstrate his of a home, for example, an occupation, great standing resident, and resources. Be that as it may, with a subprime contract, it was fundamentally similar to free cash. The individual didn't need to express their salary, nor demonstrate that you had a job.The venture investor and the bank are facing a challenge, provided that a property holder defaults on their home loan, the moneylender gets the house and sells the house for a benefit since home estimations have been expa nding (Issues and Controversies, 2010). While home estimations have been expanding, American livelihoods have been falling for a considerable length of time; and on account of sub-prime home loans, the individual didn't need to demonstrate pay, an individual with a $30 thousand dollar pay; could claim a $300 thousand dollar home. Numerous individuals defaulted on their home loans, and abandonments have been on the ascent. In the United States, dispossessions were up 81% in 2008 and up 225% from 206â⬠, which equivalents out to 19 for each 1,000 family units (CBS News, 2008). Due to there was a tremendous increment in abandonments, rather than lodging costs expanding; the houses esteems diminished in esteem rapidly and brought about more dispossessions. A $300 thousand dollar contracts was presently just worth $75 thousand dollars. So all the home loans that was in the speculation broker CDO, presently are useless, and nobody wantsââ¬â¢ to take the CDO, and now the CDO is acti ng like a bomb (Roney, 2007).The venture financier is currently terrifying in light of the fact that he obtained a large number of dollars to purchase the home loan, and now he can't dispose of it; anyway he isn't the one and only one. A great many speculation financiers all through the world have CDOââ¬â¢s on their hand (Bailed out banks, 2010). In result the worldââ¬â¢s money related framework has gotten solidified, and everybody begins failing. Because of the disappointment, the United States government reveals another program called Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to forestall another bank failure.Under the bank bailout, making of new enactment to ensure the shopper has quickly expanded, and supporters of the bank bailout point to the Credit Card Act of 209. Not exclusively were subprime contracts influenced, yet because of the freeze in the credit advertise in the United States government required an approach to direct the charge card industry, yet in addition to inv igorate spending. Under the Credit Card Act of 2009, they require the money related foundations to give the cardholders 45 dayââ¬â¢s notice of any loan cost change and monetary establishments are restricted from utilizing misdirecting terms, for example, ââ¬Å"prime or fixed rateâ⬠(The White House, 2009).With this enactment set up, it shields the purchaser from a significant number of the tricks that the home loan industry utilized as snare to get customers into purchasing houses they couldn't manage, utilizing the subprime contracts (Roney, 2007). Yet additionally it takes into account Congress to grasp new guidelines put on the budgetary establishments. The Credit Card Act of 2009 that has become some portion of the well known bank bailout, in any case, it has been appeared to secure the shopper, and Congress will control the new guidelines put on monetary institutions. For model, ââ¬Å"there is no top on the financing cost the Mastercard organizations can chargeâ⬠, and keeping in mind that Mastercard organizations can't expand you loan cost yet just in the event that you are late on an installment, ââ¬Å"However future buys financing costs can be raised with no reasonâ⬠(White, 2010). The charge card organizations can raise the loan fee on any buys, while they should in any case advise you of the higher loan cost, the swelling of the loan cost can happen at any time. This is the very same estimates the money related foundations have used to deceive their customers and ââ¬Å"kick them when they are downâ⬠and ââ¬Å"corrupt the working class of Americaâ⬠(White, 2010). How the subprime contract blasted, needed to originate from the terms that a significant number of the normal purchasers can't comprehend, and a significant repercussions of the subprime/credit emergency, happened when numerous individuals defaulted on their homes and Mastercards (Roney, 2007).Then the home loan and home won't exist for the family any more, and t he Visa organizations will expand their financing cost enough with the goal that the card holders won't have the option to pay their charge card/contract. In which then the money related organization dogs them and assaults them at their center roots and even calls other relatives to caution them of the card holder monetary issues since they can't cover their tabs. The banking and monetary organization have not taken any activities to keep another credit emergency from happening again.Supporters of the bank bailout, regularly alluded to as TARP, contend that the bailout cleaned all the terrible poisonous resources (CDOââ¬â¢s) which were gathered as aftereffect of the credit emergency and kept the advantages from harming the budgetary foundations. The significant beneficiaries were Freddie Mac; and Fannie Mae. Both were government possessed endeavors which purchased a greater part of the sub-prime home loans (Roney, 2007). Evacuating the ba

The Moka Exchange Research Assignment Paper - 825 Words
The Moka Exchange Research Assignment Paper (Case Study Sample) Content: Students Name:Professors Name:Course:Date:The Moka ExchangeMarcel Mausss three obligations of the gift entail giving gifts, receiving and reciprocating. In this particular case, a big man in the tribe of Kawelka arranges a feast to pay back a Mokaà to a Peruwa, a man from a neighbouring tribe that had earlier on hosted such an event. With Moka meaning interestà , Ongka arranges to repay more than what was given to him initially, which was 400 pigs. He intends to counter this by giving back 600 pigs, which indeed is in agreement with the obligation of reciprocity that whatever you give back must be of higher value. Ongka works hard to bring friends, relatives, and other his tribesmen together in smaller feasts to contribute pigs towards the big Moka to repay Peruwa. He does so to maintain the fame and status for him and his tribe and to outdo Peruwa. In the feasts, he collects enough gifts from the three feasts that he held. (Andrew, 32-46)Karl Polanyi argues, The economy is an instituted processà in non-western countries. It is a process where man interacts with his environment, to ensure means of material stuff continuously supplies his wants. This system is concerned with action within a market, where commodities are used as prices to quantify action and conditions of choice. When the economy is institutionalized, it brings about unity and stability, producing a structure in the society. Instituted economies are characterized by reciprocity, redistribution, and exchange. In the Moka exchange system, the environment is organized symmetrically to allow for successful reciprocative behaviour among the tribes. Kinship and neighbourhood positively contributed towards this reciprocating behaviour. The Kawelka people also demonstrated sharing and division of labour, which brings about a redistributive economy. Arranging for the big Moka meant that people had to share and contribute pigs and money towards its success, and in turn, the women ha d to take care of the pigs, demonstrating division of labour.Ongkas system of rule was by persuasion rather than physical coercion. He did not have real authority, leaving him no choice but to persuade his people to accept his ideas and plans. He encourages them to work hard for the success of him and his tribe. He makes speeches at the small makes to convince his people towards contributing for the big Moka.I have knocked you down because have given you so much,à declares Ongka at the end. He makes this statement to imply that according to their traditions, he had achieved for his tribe what any Big manà should. These include political and social gains. Among the social gains are fame, status, and prestige for both himself and his people, thus earning him favour among his people over the Australian rulers to come.Ongkas obligation to sponsor the Moka does indeed amount to fulfilling an agreement equivalent to a legal contract. This is so because customary practices associated with the Moka exchange are tied by rules governing Mausss obligations of gifts. Just like how legal contracts serve to preserve morality, the Moka gift giving is founded on morality. By giving, receiving and retuning gifts, moral bonds are created between the people involved in the thus exchange. Thus by agreeing to sponsor this, Ongka was obligated to honour the rules of the gameà just like it is in a legal contract.Just like how the Kwakiutl chiefs organize their people and designate duties, Ongka was also responsible for organizing his people for a common cause. He made sure to encourage the men to work so as to raise more pigs while he delegated the duty of taking care of the pigs to the women once he acquired them. This is clearly shown by Rumbeka his favourite wife, who has to take care of more than ten pigs to serve as Ongkas contribution during the Moka. While the Kwakiutl chiefs acquire their positions and status from the primogeniture...

Essay about Analysis of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles...
ââ¬Å"A Tale of Two Citiesâ⬠by Charles Dickens is an artfully crafted tale that unabashedly tells the story of the injustice, the horror and the madness of the French Revolution. More than this, it is a story of one manââ¬â¢s redemption, one man who Dickens vividly portrays as being ââ¬Å"a nobodyâ⬠. This nobody had thrown away his life. ââ¬Å"A Tale of Two Citiesâ⬠is the tale of Sydney Carton and his full circle redemption. The first impression we get of Sydney Carton is not a pleasant one. ââ¬Å"[Sydney Carton] sat leaning back, with his torn gown half off him, his untidy wig put on just as it happened to light on his head after removal, his hands in his pockets, and his eyes on the ceiling as they had been all day. Something especially reckless in hisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦What a change you have made in yourself. A good for talking to a man, that he shows you what you might have been!ââ¬â¢ â⬠(p. 64) It is at this point in the novel that Carton admits to himself that he is not satisfied with the path his life had taken. Causes Of The Opium Wars - 1048 Words
The Opium Wars were a series of conflicts that eventually led to Chinaââ¬â¢s decline through the trade and abuse of the drug opium. The first of the Opium Wars (1839-42) was fought between China and Britain, and the second war (1856-1860) involved France as well. In both wars, the foreign powers triumphed over China, causing havoc, causing the fall of the Qing dynasty. Prior to the Opium Wars, China was full of rich culture, remarkable goods, and useful inventions. They had invented gunpowder, kites, and porcelain, all of which were in demand. The Qing dynasty had believed that they were superior to other countries, and refused to let any foreigners access any Chinese territory. The addictive nature also began to cause people to want, or even need, more and more of the drug, ensuring that it would be a continuous market for Britain. The amount of addicts skyrocketed to 12 million at one point, which soon led to a ban on the drug by Lin Zexu, commissioner of China. Zexu arrested dealers, seized crates of the drug, and then dumped 2.6 million pounds of it into the ocean. This was another cause for the opium war, as his actions angered British traders who were not able to get compensation from the British government. Overall, Chinaââ¬â¢s strict trading techniques, in addition to the way they responded to the problem was one of the main causes of the opium wars. Another main cause for the opium wars was Chinaââ¬â¢s unfair trade superiority. Prior to the opium wars, China was the leading trade nation for the world, with its long distance trade reaching many different area of the world, such as Southern Asia, the Middle East, and even Europe. China had the most commercial ships out of anybody in the world up to the 19th centur y, which helped expand its already large economy. Financing the Short Term Obligations of The Business Coursework
Essays on Financing the Short Term Obligations of The Business Coursework Financing The Short Term Obligations Of A Businessâ⬠and Task Sources of Short Term Finance There are many different types of sources of short term finance that can be used by a company to finance its operations. However, the most common sources include: (i) business overdrafts, (ii) trade credit, (iii) bank loans, and (iv) lease. Each of these is discussed in detail below. I. Business Overdraft Almost all companies have the accounts with more than one bank. An overdraft facility is when the bank agrees that company withdraws money from the bank in excess of its balance with the bank. Of course, such a facility needs to be agreed with the bank well in advance, so that the bank honors its commitment by allowing an overdraft facility to the company at a time when the companyââ¬â¢s own funds end. A major difference between a loan and an overdraft is that in loans, interest is to be paid on the entire amount, whereas in the case of an overdraft interest is only paid on the amount of overdraft facility used (and not on the entire amount of overdraft facility). II. Trade Credit Trade credit is often a facility extended by suppliers to their customers to make payment at a later then at the actual time of making the purchase. The payment can be made by the company anytime within the time decided at the time of making the purchase. Trade credit facilities are usually lent out by suppliers without charging any interest on the amount of purchase as such. The payment period varies from company to company, but most businesses are required to pay up within a month of making the purchase. III. Bank Loans Bank loans are one of the most common ways of financing the short term obligations of a company. Money can be lent from banks on flexible terms in terms of the repayment period, amount of the loan and that interest that would be charged on the principal amount (Webster and Healey, 1998). Bank loans are a very good way to finance the operations of a company but the downside is high interest payments, which need to be paid even if the business itself doesnââ¬â¢t do well enough (Organization For Economic Cooperation And Development, 1996). IV. Lease Leasing is one of the most common ways of financing the operations of a company. Even though leasing doesnââ¬â¢t allow one to own a particular thing, it effectively gives the owner of the lease a right to use the good leased. In case of a lease pre-decided payments need to be made at every payment interval and they give the lessee the right to use the goods as they want to. Leasing is a good source of short term financing as it gives the right to use the goods leased just by making small term payments rather than buying the good outright. Moreover, leases are flexible and can be set up to suit a companyââ¬â¢s own requirements. Task 2 The two companies that are being used for the purpose of this question are British Petroleum and Shell. a) Shell has been financing its short term obligations with the help of liquid cash. Moreover, the company has access to various international capital markets from where it can raise debts to service its obligations. It has access to these debt capital markets through the help of two commercial paper or CP programs, namely the EMTN program (Euro Medium Term Note Program) and the US universal shelf registration. Moreover, Shell also has access to a committed credit facility, which it often used to service its short term obligations. British Petroleum, on the other hand, uses cash to service its short term obligations. Other than that, it has lending and overdraft facilities set up with commercial banks, which it uses at times for the same purpose (Nichols, 1908). Moreover, to manage its exposure to risk on its short term liabilities, British Petroleum also engages in the trading of derivatives. b) Liquidity And Efficiency Ratios Shell British Petroleum Liquidity Ratios Current Ratio = Current Assets / Current Liabilities 112,894 / 100,552 = 1.12 89,725 / 82,832 = 1.08 Quick Ratio = (Current Assets ââ¬â Stock) / Current Liabilities (112,894 ââ¬â 29,348) / 100,552 = 0.83 (89,725 ââ¬â 26,218) / 82,832 = 0.77 Efficiciency Ratios Debtor Days = (Debtors / Sales) * 365 70,102 * 365 / 368,056 = 69.52 days 36,549 * 365 / 297,107 = 44.9 days Creditor Days = (Creditors / Purchases) * 365 76,550 * 365 / 283,176 = 98.67 days 46,329 * 365 / 216,211 = 78.21 days Stock Turnover Days = Cost Of Goods Sold / Average Stock (27,410 + 283,176 ââ¬â 29,348) / ((27,410 + 29,348) / 2) = 9.91 times (22,605 + 216,211 ââ¬â 26,218) / ((22605 + 26,218) / 2) = 8.71 times c) Liquidity Ratios The liquidity position of Shell seems to be slightly better off than of its competitor, British Petroleum. Shell has a current ratio of 1.12, meaning it 1.12 units of assets to serve every 1 unit of its liability. On the other hand, the same figure for British Petroleum stands at 1.08, which isnââ¬â¢t that bad as per industry standards, yet is a little lower than its competitor Shell (Nichols, 1908). Quick ratio is the same as current ratio besides the fact that it doesnââ¬â¢t take stock into consideration as a current asset. The rationale behind this is that stock often takes a lot of time to be sold, thereby it isnââ¬â¢t that liquid. Shell has a better quick ratio than British Petroleum. However, since the figure for both the companies is below 1, it means that the company is not in a current state to finance all its short term liabilities with the help of its current assets since a lot of money is tied up in inventory (Nichols, 1908). d) Efficiency Ratios Looking at the efficiency ratios makes it very clear the Shell is more efficient in managing its working capital as compared to Shell. British Petroleum makes recovery from its debtors in about 45 days as compared to Shell, which takes almost 70 days to do the same. This much a considerable amount of money is stuck with debtors all the time until the payment is actually received (Webster and Healey, 1998). Credit days for Shell and British Petroleum stand at 99 and 78 days respectively. It can be observed here that Shell better negotiates with it suppliers, as it is able to get a longer deadline to make payment to its suppliers. This mean that in the meanwhile until payment is made to the suppliers (Keir, 1988), Shell can use this money to finance other business related issues. Finally, the stock turnover days for Shell and British Petroleum are 9.9 and 8.7 respectively. Shell has higher stock turnover days which mean it is better at managing its stock. Shell generates a higher level of sales from its ordered stock then British Petroleum does, thereby saving on holding and ordering costs of stocks and maximizing profitability. Character Analysis of Brother Jack and Brother Tod in...
Ralph Ellisonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Invisible Manâ⬠, is a novel that reveals the characters psychological growth. Also, in this novel the story revolves around the narrator as an individual. In this novel the narrator relates the whole story in a first person point of view in which his name is never revealed. The narrator remains a voice throughout the entire novel, never establishing a concrete presence in the story. This is why he is looked at as an ââ¬Å"invisible man.â⬠In the novel, he is an African American who is extremely vulnerable to the pressure that society put upon him. Ellison uses Brother Jack, the leader of the Brotherhood, to reveal realistic situations in the life of an African American and the victims that come about with an African Americanââ¬â¢s lifestyle during the time this novel was actually published. At the beginning of the story, Jack seems to be a very caring, generous, and honorable person. He gives away his job, along with money and many other things in order to help his fellow African American people. But, as the story evolves it becomes known that the narrator and most of the other African Americans are all unseen or ââ¬Å"invisibleâ⬠to Brother Jack. Jack uses the narrator as a tool in order to advance some of the Brotherhoodââ¬â¢s goals. The Brotherhood soon figures out that Jack has the same outlook on the African American race as the majority of the Caucasian American society. Ellison uses Brother Jack to symbolize how poorly African Americans were treated during the 1930s and 40s. Brother Jack has the char acteristics if a flat character. Arguable one of the most memorable characters in this novel is Ras the Exhorter. He is a man that seems to have a powerful impact in this story. Ellison uses this character to show his concerns of what he believes will come in the future for the African American race. Ras is a man that believes heavily in fighting against the white men who try to control the

Not only is obesity and poor nutrition likely to increase the cost to the NHS from ? 2billion per year to ? 5billion per year in 2025 but the social implications are huge. By reducing premature deaths people, on average would enjoy and extra 1. 3 ââ¬â 2. 5 million years of life and 2. 8 million years of illness and disability-free life (DoH, 2010). However, in contrast, the Health Survey for England (National Heart Forum, 2009) would suggest that although obesity is still a problem, the prevalence of obese children aged 2-11 years is, in fact, declining: By simply incorporating the recent Health Survey for England (HSE) data into the Heart Forum model, it is shown that for children of both sexes, aged 2 to 11, the predicted prevalence of overweight and obese in 2020 drop from their Foresight predicted values of 28% overweight and 16% obese to 22% overweight and 12% obese. The advertising of fast-food restaurants is so appealing these days that they are looked at as a good thing. They may try to provide a healthy menu, but is it really any better then the rest of the unhealthy menu? Think about how the food is really made, how it got to the restaurant, and how the factories process the food. Iââ¬â¢m sure a salad is no doubt healthier then a hamburger but is that salad fresh? Do the workers at McDonalds go out to the back garden and pick the lettuce and tomato? It comes from factories that manufacture the ââ¬Å"healthy product. â⬠This topic on obesity and health is complicated in a number of ways. First is, is it really Americas problem to define the country as a whole as being obese and unhealthy? The second being, itââ¬â¢s a lifestyle that America has adapted to, meaning we are so used to being around fast-food restaurants, that itââ¬â¢s a ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ thing to do. America is the land of the free. Why should it be anyone elseââ¬â¢s business what others put into their bodies? It all goes back to the personal accountability aspect. What you decide to put into your body is up to you. It shouldnââ¬â¢t be Americaââ¬â¢s problem. America has gotten used to eating unhealthy because itââ¬â¢s so easy to do so. We have so many options in restaurants and in food choices. If America really had a problem with the obesity in this country, why isnââ¬â¢t anyone desperately trying to end it? People can talk all they want but actually accomplishing that is a whole other story. Obesity and unhealthy lifestyles as a topic is an important issue. Our bodies replicate as a ââ¬Å"factory,â⬠you need to put healthy things into it to keep all the equipment from shutting down. Your body needs specific ingredients to maintain function. Some examples would be, water, fruits, vegetables, and meats. Water hydrates your body and keeps what needs to be flowing, flowing. Fruits and vegetables run as an energy source for your body. They keep you running. Without the maintenance in the factory, it will shut down. Your body acts in the same way. There are many different people that think about the topic in many ways. There are arguments that are both pro and con. Some of the people that are going to be talked about throughout the essay are Zinczenco, Balko, Warner, Haygood, Obama, Pollan, Maxfield, Orbach, and Freeman. A brief description about each of these authors will first be addressed and then further along in the essay they will be covered in more detail. Zinczenco talks about in his article, ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Blame the Eater,â⬠government and the statistics about the fast-food industry. Balko goes into detail about how people are becoming less responsible for their own health and more responsible for everyone elseââ¬â¢s. Warner says in his article that people have gotten used to the bad eating habits. Itââ¬â¢s the simple and easy way to satisfy their hunger. Those are just a few of the articles that are going to be discussed. Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder. Only about 5 percent of childhood cases were obesity related, or Type 2, diabetes. Today, according to the National Institutes of Health, Type 2 diabetes accounts for at least 30 percent of all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country. Also money to treat the diabetes has gone up extremely high. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that diabetes accounted for $2. 6 billion in health care costs in 1969. Todayââ¬â¢s number is an unbelievable $100 billion a year. Zinczenko has a very valid point when he says, ââ¬Å"advertisements donââ¬â¢t carry warning labels the way tobacco ads do. Prepared foods arenââ¬â¢t covered under Food and Drug Administration labeling laws. The fast-food industry would be doing well in protecting themselves if they were to provide the nutritional information people need to make informed choices about their products. If you were to drive down any road in America, there is a really good chance youââ¬â¢d see more then one of the 13,000 McDonaldââ¬â¢s restaurants, but trying to find somewhere that sells a healthy grapefruit is another story. The fast food industry will contain a calorie count of the food you will be eating but it will be the bare minimum. They will not add in the dressing for the salad or the almonds and noodles, those will come separately. There will be a small print on the back of the container saying the dressing actually contains more than one serving. Adding it all together, you have yourself a over 1,000 calorie meal, which is half of the governmentââ¬â¢s recommended daily calorie intake. Radley Balko says in his article that congress is now considering menu-labeling legislation, which would force restaurants to send every menu item to the laboratory for nutritional testing. People are becoming less responsible for their own health and more responsible for everyone elseââ¬â¢s. Our government should be working to foster a sense of responsibility in and ownership of our own health and well-being. Balko says that President Bush earmarked $200 million in his huge budget for anti-obesity measures. School boards across the nation have begun to ban snack and sodas from school campuses and vending machines in order to bring the obesity level down. The best way to alleviate the obesity ââ¬Å"public healthâ⬠crisis is to remove obesity from the realm of public health. If policymakers really want to stop obesity they would stop the socialization of medicine and move to return individual Americansââ¬â¢ ownership of their own health. The government should also give the option of rolling money that is reserved for health care into a retirement account. Like Zinczenko says in his article ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Blame the Eater. â⬠ââ¬Å"Kids taking on McDonaldââ¬â¢s this week, suing the company for making them fat. Isnââ¬â¢t that like middle-aged men suing Porsche for making them get speeding tickets? â⬠It all comes back to personal responsibility. Your well-being, shape, and condition have increasingly been deemed matters of ââ¬Å"public healthâ⬠instead of matters of personal responsibility. All of the Democratic candidates for president boasted plans to push health care further into the public sector. At a time when more than two thirds of American adults are indeed far and 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese, declaring war on unhealthful eating, as the Obama administration has done to an unprecedented extent, could be fraught with political liability. Trying to teach children and Americans, healthier eating habits seemed so commonsensical a venture, Michelle Obama chose it for her apolitical personal project. She has succeeded in enlisting some bipartisan support, and some much hyped cooperation from the food industry. You canââ¬â¢t change specific eating behavior without addressing that way of life, without changing our culture of food. You need to present healthful eating as a new, desirable, freely chosen expression of the American way. David Kessler, the former U. S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner, says ââ¬Å"in the space of a generation, cigarettes stopped being portrayed as ââ¬Å"sexy and coolâ⬠and started to be seen as ââ¬Å"a terribly disgusting, addictive product. But because of the unique emotional power of food, itââ¬â¢s hard, if not impossible, to similarly stigmatize unhealthful eating. â⬠Americans will not adopt a new way of eating any time soon, because for years now, people have gotten used to eating the way they do. Itââ¬â¢s the simple and easy way to satisfy their hunger. People have gotten lazy in the way they eat and look for the easy way out. Instead of taking the time to prepare something healthy and nutritional, people tend to sit in their cars, drive around a building in which they are buying food, and eat it on the way home. What happened to setting the table in your home and preparing a home cooked meal in which everyone participates in and then enjoying it all together afterwards? It all comes down to laziness. Trying to change the way people see food and the way they eat is something that will not happen overnight. It will take time for people to realize that the things they eat at fast-food restaurants will hurt them in the long run, whether itââ¬â¢s a once a week thing, or a once a day problem, it is going to affect peopleââ¬â¢s health. There are organizations that try so hard to teach everyone the risks and problems of unhealthy eating, but is anyone really listening? Do people see the advertisements and really take the time to sit down and study it more closely? In a magazine there might be a page that shows a picture of a person that has been eating fast food their entire life and now has many health problems, but is that going to be the page you stop on and suddenly change your way of eating? Or are you going to continue on some more and stop where you see a big juicy burger from McDonalds and go out and buy one? It all comes down to laziness. In a town where everyone knows everyone it is difficult to keep yourself hidden. The town of Manchester, Kentucky has an overall population of 2,100 people. Everyone is very close with each other due to the bake sales, and volunteering. But it is what goes uncelebrated and even ignored that has become Manchesterââ¬â¢s defining feature. In an increasingly unhealthy country, it is one of the unhealthiest places of all. The national obesity rate for adults is 24 percent; in Manchester and the surrounding counties, its been estimated as high as 51 percent. The article explains the layout of the town in a way that just makes it seem miserable. ââ¬Å"The town has a retro, lived-in look. The downtown movie theater is gone, through the marquee is still visible. There has clearly been economic suffering. There is a medium-security federal prison on the edge of town, out past the gas stations that sell fried chicken and pizza. The intersections leading into town features a McDonaldââ¬â¢, a Wendyââ¬â¢s, and Arbyââ¬â¢s and a subway. And just beyond that, thereââ¬â¢s a Burger King, A Long John Silverââ¬â¢s, a Leeââ¬â¢s Famous Recipe Chicken and a Pizza Hut. Hardly anyone in the town gets out and is actually active anymore. A father of two girls, says that ever since he went through the breakup of his wife, his eldest daughter had gone into an emotional tailspin, that has lead her to overeat and seclude herself in her bedroom where she spends hours on her computer. The daughter had gone to the doctors and was told that she was 30 pounds overweight and is on the borderline of diabetic. Jill Day has been studying for her doctorate in kinesiology and health promotion. She grew up in Kentucky and decided to go back to do a study on the obesity rate. Her subjects were fourth and fifth grade students. Her study would be the first of its kind that focuses on the underlying causes of obesity. The students fell into the categories of healthy, underweight, overweight, and obese. She says she had estimated in her head that one-third of the kids in Manchester would be overweight or obese. It happened to be half of them. Jill Day had spent two years on her study. Michelle Obama addresses the people and then proceeds to express her gratitude by thanking the members of NAACP. Michel Obama and her husband believe that this organization is one whose legacy is not to take advantage. They believe itââ¬â¢s an obligation that shall be fulfilled with the upmost respect. We as mothers need to prepare are children for the future and the challenges that lie ahead. Michelle Obama believes that childhood obesity is a major epidemic in America today. Obesity can lead to harmful conditions such as heart disease, cancer, asthma, and diabetes. This isnââ¬â¢t about the way are children look but the health and how they feel. This is a major issue in which has effected many communities but more likely to effect African American children than white. We need to address this problem and reverse this trend. We need to take this issue seriously by asking are selves how we got here in the first place. We live in a society today that is extremely different than what it was when Obama grew up. Michelle grew up in a time where kids walked to school and schools offered recess twice a day. A time where kids didnââ¬â¢t have video games and played outside for fun. Meals consisted of healthy food of reasonable sizes where there were hardly seconds. People these days donââ¬â¢t grow are own food as when are grandparents did. People will now take a trip to the local grocery store or run through a fast food franchise. We can build exceptional schools but without proper nutrition to concentrate they are rendered useless. We can create positions for outstanding job opportunities but without the energy and enthusiasm to perform them they are as well useless. You can offer the best medical care they can buy but when continuing to live unhealthy life styles such as improper nutrition these facilities are as well useless. Michel Obama has made making improving childrenââ¬â¢s health one of her top priorities. Obama has launched the ââ¬Å"Letââ¬â¢s Moveâ⬠campaign, which is a program to solve childhood besity so that children of today make it to adulthood at a proper weight. The ââ¬Å"Lets Moveâ⬠campaign has four components. The first provides information to parents allowing them to make healthier decisions for their families. Health care legislation requires the nutritional information to be posted on all fast food menus. The second component is to establish schools to provide healthy food. This will eliminate sugary foods and provides foods that are more nutrient rich. The third part is to make children more active by encouraging them to ride bikes and walk to school. The fourth component is to ensure all families had easy access to health foods within their communities. If the option is available more people will take advantage of this healthy opportunity. Childhood obesity is a growing trend in America in which is very preventable. With the ââ¬Å"Lets Moveâ⬠campaign this is the perfect four components to establish a way to save many children from going down the wrong path. Changing the peopleââ¬â¢s nutritional diet is a difficult task but it can be done, simply by providing more healthy options in schools and in the community. Nutritionist consisting of fats, carbs and antioxidants is a powerful science. Yet the explanation of diet makes this an imperfect science. This article is implementing ways to ââ¬Å"escape from the western diet. â⬠There are as many truths to nutrition as there are myths. For there are many scientific theories on nutritionism, all on which dictate the way you eat. The western diet is characterized by the intake of processed foods and high fatty foods. Many individuals define the western diet as being unavoidable. The western diet is believed to be responsible as the major factor of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Many scientific phenomenonsââ¬â¢ all appear to have very much the same solution ââ¬Å"stop eating the western diet. â⬠Theories of nutrition and the curiosity of how things work is valued more by the food industry and the medical community. In order for the food industry to design new processed foods they must first come up with theories that allow them to develop a new line of products. The food industry will use scientific backing to further its production in processed foods. The medical community uses scientific theories about diet to boost their business. They let the new theories allow them to develop new drugs to treat the western dietââ¬â¢s diseases. New treatments and procedures are a major profit beneficiary for their industry. Dennis Burkitt, an English doctor believes the only way to escape from the western diet is to rely on the lifestyles of our ancestors. Burkitt believes to go back to a more primitive way of nutrition where hunting and gathering food was a way to survive. a big majority of the way we get food today is looked at by driving next to a building and having food handed to us through a window. In todayââ¬â¢s society the most important factor about food is not the nutritional value but in the way it is processed. The western diet is inexpensive and easy, thus making it Americaââ¬â¢s number one diet. Throughout history, gathering and preparing food was a career in the survival of daily life. So how do we escape form the western diet? The answer is simple, stop eating the western diet. How is it that other countries can eat so unhealthily yet stay on average, healthier than Americans? Other countries perceive Americans as being unhealthy, yet the word healthy has a broad of definitions. Who defines the nutritional science of healthy and unhealthy? The journalist Michael Pollan, believes that the food industry is the main confusion on how to eat. Pollan believes that the food industry contributes to the cultural society of food. Pollan implicates the elimination of processed foods will encourage a healthier nutritional lifestyle. Pollan is a food critic and a firm believer of the food science of health and nutrition. Pollan has published manuals for better eating in which the guidelines defer the prescriptions of food scientists. Pollanââ¬â¢s food guidelines are more of eating algorithms that produce a number and variety of meals. Many nutritional geniuses back up their information through the concerns of American health. America is a nation that has many western diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Our culture we live in today correlates unhealthy eating to unhealthy weight. Pollan believes that over eating leads to the greatest threat to our survival. Americaââ¬â¢s government fights against the obesity epidemic, which threatens our national health. Cultural has a major influence on the health-based problems. Despite academic knowledge, common sense can connect diet, health, and weight. Pollan believes that processed foods make us sick and fat, yet no evidence can support that claim. The question of today is, why have Americans become more obese? America has a $50-billion-per-year diet industry that develops weight loss drugs, and articles of the obesity crisis. Throughout the research, BMI, a tool that uses height and weight, was developed to predict heart disease and other maladies. To totally eliminate the American anxiety of nutrition, we need to rise above our animal nature and not complicate the practice of eating food.

Exploring And Extending Legacy Of Howard â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Exploring And Extending Legacy Of Howard? Answer: Introduction In this assignment, it can be stated that the case-based researches are generally tending to the process of addressing the problems of research within the Interpretivists paradigms rather than the Positivist paradigm. A case-based research could be an explanatory, theory-building research that does the incorporation as well as explanation of ideas from outside the scenario of the case-based research. Critical review on case-based research Case-based researches are considered being the most essential as well as significant type of research. Case-based research can be explanatory, theory-building research that does the incorporation as well as explaining of ideas from outside the scenario relating to the cases. Therefore, this kind of case-based researches are considered being extrinsic rather than intrinsic (Sarker, 2013). Moreover, it can be stated that case-based research is particularly used in respect of these practical situations of business in which there occurs the use of multiple sources of evidence, as well as the boundaries within the phenomenon as well as the 4Ps of its context. The exploratory case-based research and the confirmatory case-based research might have the requirement for deciding for one or the other regarding the choice of all or nothing (Kolodner, 2014). However, this is not considered to be true and there is the requirement for a combination of exploratory case-based research and the confirm atory case-based research. A case-based research is required meeting three criteria such as, the case is a critical one to confirm, challenge or extend a theory since, it is the only one that is meeting every condition relating to the theory the case is rare and to find other cases is so improbable that research regarding the scenario could never be done when a case is not investigated the case is providing unusual accessibility in respect of academic research, and unless there does not occur an investigation of the case, the scope for examining a major problem related with social science might get lost The advantages of case-based research are associated with the aspects of intensive study, developing new research as well as providing new insight. In respect of intensive study, it can be stated that the case-based researches are having the responsibility in respect of intensive study regarding a unit. It is associated with the aspect of investigating as well as exploring an event in a thorough as well as deep manner (Klenke, 2016). In respect of developing a new research, it can be stated that case-based researches are considered being one o the optimum ways for stimulating a new research. In respect of providing new insight, it can also be stated that the case-based researches are having the ability for providing new insight into observable facts whose learning cannot occur in any other way. However, there are also certain disadvantages associated with the case-based researches (Keutel, 2014). These are associated with the inability for replicating, biasness of the researchers, ti me intensive, having the possibility of errors as well as ethical concerns. In respect of the inability for replicating, it can be stated that there are certain studies whose replication cannot be done and, as a result, cannot be agreed with. In respect of the biasness of the researchers, it can be stated that when a case-based research gets conducted, there is a strong possibility of the researcher to do the formation of a biased attitude (Henry, 2015). This biased attitude might be in respect of the subject, the type of data collection or the way by which there occurs the interpretation of the data (Savery, 2015). In respect of intensiveness of time, it can be stated that the case-based researches can have high consumption of time. The process of collecting data can be very exhaustive as well as long, and this is something with which the new researchers are not having familiarity. It takes a long time-period for developing a case-based research as well as doing the development of a comprehensive evaluation (Granlund, 2017). In respect of having the possibility of errors, it can be stated that the case-based researches might be having flaws regarding judgment or memory. Since, the reconstruction of a case history is depending upon memory, this might be leading to mistakes (Stake, 2013). In respect of ethical issues, it can be stated that with case-based researches, there always occurs the question related with the ethical aspects. Since, the researchers get too much involved with the study, questions might arise whether a researcher will be reporting behaviours that are considered unethical when they observed it (Baran, 2014). Conclusion To conclude, it can be stated that case-based researches are particularly suitable in respect of those practical business circumstances regarding a contemporary phenomenon within its dynamically changing practical situations, regarding multiple sources of evidence as well as the boundaries between the occurrences as well as the 4Ps of its context are not considered having clarity. Kinesiology Research Paper Topics - Strength and Conditioning
Kinesiology Research Paper Topics - Strength and ConditioningKinesiology research papers are often the subject of great debate between athletes and researchers as to whether strength and conditioning exercises should be studied or not. Many people do question the importance of strength and conditioning when it comes to training for sports, but should Kinesiology paper truly focus on how much time is spent on training strength or more specifically, strength endurance? As you may have guessed, researchers believe that any research on Kinesiology should be in regards to strength endurance. This is simply because strength is always going to be important to any athlete and to anyone looking to get into better shape or maintain their current weight. Even the newest Olympic medalists know that strength is an absolute must in order to maximize their strength. But what exactly should a Kinesiology paper look at when talking about strength endurance? There are many types of exercises that are gr ouped together as strength endurance and it can get rather confusing if you're just trying to figure out if they should be studied or not. The best way to sort this all out is to start by researching different types of strength training and then explain them so that you can show that you are knowledgeable in the topic. For example, one of the most common forms of strength endurance is going to be sprinting. So, if you're going to talk about sprinting you may need to refer to some training tapes, or you may need to discuss how effective different training programs are for high school kids. The best thing to do is go ahead and talk about sprinting in an actual paper and make sure that you include all of the necessary information to help you get that 'A' that you want out of your paper.Another great type of strength endurance is going to be lifting weights. By using this as a part of your topic you may be able to achieve several different things; the first isthat you will be able to ens ure that you do not lack the knowledge that you need to correctly perform any strength training program, and the second is that you will be able to prove to your professor that you're knowledgeable in this area.If you take the time to research these different types of strength endurance, you will be able to demonstrate to your professor that you understand the process and how it relates to strength and conditioning. This will help you land that coveted 'A' and this will be greatly helpful to you as a student in an athletic program. So, when it comes to strength endurance you should focus on strength endurance and this can be done by addressing all of the different types of exercises. Once you've done this, you should focus on showing your knowledge in both the short and long term effects of strength training.Remember that your goal in writing a Kinesiology research paper is to research what you should include in your paper and then put a comprehensive overview of what strength endura nce really means to the overall topic. The bottom line is that you need to find out what type of exercises should be included and then include them all in your paper.

Writing an Essay Tutorial - Writing a Successful Essay
Writing an Essay Tutorial - Writing a Successful EssayWriting an essay for college is quite an academic type of project, and must be written with proper grammar and writing style. One way to get a good college grade is to write your essay by hand and proofread the paper, or take it to the professor before you start writing your essay. Now, it is not the same as a composition essay that you do by hand, where you write the text using your hand. A college essay is one that must be written using the correct grammar and punctuation. When you are going to write your essay, it is important to learn how to start an essay the right way. There are a lot of ways to start a piece of writing, and some are better than others. The first thing you need to do when you are planning on writing an essay is to write the title. In order to make it easy for yourself to start writing, you can pick something that you know about, which you feel most comfortable with.Let's say that you're going to write an essa y about American Indians, and you choose to use the letter's title. In this case, you're not going to have to worry about remembering the title, because there are already some very famous American Indians. If you want to use a famous example of a race of people, or write a completely made up title, then you can do so. What is important though, is that you remember that the letter's title needs to match the content of the article that you are writing. Your essay is not going to be complete if you do not start out with a title that matches the piece you are writing. Then, comes the next important part: writing your body. This is where you will introduce the rest of the piece, making sure that you include all the information you need to give the reader. You do not want to be a liar here, so make sure that you try to come up with the truth. It's okay to be wrong sometimes, but do not lie in this section. In the next part, you need to add some information that relates to the piece you are writing, and then you need to write the conclusion. In this section, you need to give some conclusions, or explain the reasoning behind the ideas you presented in the first three paragraphs. Do not go into too much detail here, just make sure that you do not skip it. Once you finish writing the body, you are now ready to start writing the titles of the paragraphs. The titles should be related to the main idea of the piece. For example, if you write an essay about journalism, you would use titles such as 'Journalism in the 20th Century', or 'The Best of American Journalism'. When you use titles for your articles, make sure that they fit in with the ideas that you presented in the paragraphs that you were writing. Finally, the last section of the essay is going to be a review of your essay. In the review section, you need to go over all the information that you have written, and the things that you feel are worth mentioning. Make sure that you put them all in one paragraph.Remember that the essay that you are writing should make a positive impact on the reader. The main goal of an essay is to explain or discuss an interesting subject. In order to do this, you must write your essays using the correct essay writing style.
