To what extent can personality traits predict a persons leadership Essay

To what extent can genius traits predict a persons attractionship abilities - Essay ExampleTo begin with, it is important to explain why Hitler was a bad leader. He certainly was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. That in itself is bad. that we know above all that Hitler was a bad leader because he left his hoidenish in ruins. He, more than anyone elseincluding the allieswas the reason that Germany was a divided, destroyed country in 1945. His erratic, haughty, and morbid personality could have predicted that terrible result (Robertson 1963). To begin with, history is important to set Hitlers personality into perspective. World War One was a disaster for Germany. Many say that the war began as a result of German aggression ended with a German defeat. The winners of the war, Britain and France, were not in a mood to forgive later the terrible destruction of previous four years. They wanted maximum reparations from the German people for their losses during the war. That is why they chose to impose the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty was destructive for the German economy. Into this mess came Hitler, shiny a revival. He promised a novel Germany that would last a thousands years and would be a channelize light to the world. What type of man was he? Hitler was a failed painter. He came from a background that was not actually good. He behaved erratically and had trouble making good relationships with people. He had grandiose ideas about himself, but passim his life until that point had been a failure in everything he did. These were not the personality traits one looks for in a leader. Usually, people seek leaders from good background, who have confidence and credentials. Hitler managed to appeal to people because he blamed other people for Germanys suffering. He told Germans that they were not responsible for the tragedy that had befallen them. He told them to look elsewhere. He said he would lead them out of the wilderness (Robertson 1963 ). This was all very appealing. He was able to nurse over by force based on this arguments. Rather than revolt against him, Germans accepted him as their leader. But what his personality and his qualities gave to the German people was more death and more destruction. Because of his erratic personality and poor qualities, he made multiple mistakes in starting and prosecution the Second World War. His actions led to a new and this time total defeat for the German nation. He was the worst kind of leader and many of his personality qualities would have predicted this. Among the most serious mistakes Hitler made based on his personality was attacking the Soviet marriage in 1941. The truth is that one of his main personality qualities was paranoia this is not a good quality to have in a leader. He suspected everyone around him at all times, including the leaders of other countries with which he made deals, such as Stalin. Since the remilitarization of the Rhineland in 1936, Hitler had been on a roll, winning success after success. He had successfully taken over Czechoslovakia and Austria, and he had done what seemed impossible the invasion of Poland and France. His western crusade could be threatened only by Britain, which was in no position to do so. His major busy was with the Eastern front. That was not a problem because he had made peace with Stalin in what was called the Ribbentrop-Molotov compact. This had divided Poland. The truth was that Stalin didnt care what Hitler did to Europe. Stalin didnt care if Hitler took the whole continent so long as there was peace betwixt the two

George Bernard Shaw Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

George Bernard Shaw - Essay manakinThe social themes present within Pygmalion and other more or less political wreaks had a well-grounded influence upon a number of different dramas. While political theatre may in legion(predicate) ways be traced to the very beginnings of Western drama in Ancient Greece (Fischer-Lichte, 2005), in recent eons it was Shaw who introduced the idea that a play could be both political and entertaining. The influence of Pygmalion is difficult to exaggerate. First, it provided the opportunity for playwrights to drug abuse language in a way that they had not been able to before. Shaw provided playwrights working in the late Twenteith ampere-second with an impetus to use language/plot that was considered scandalous. It may seem quaint today, but at the time the fact that Eliza says not bloody likely (Shaw, 1980) was seen as scandalous and shocking. Characters in proper drama on the West End simply did not swear. Shaw received complaints about the sweari ng but kept the language in because he said it was the realistic vernacular of the person within that situation (Innes, 1998). The sheath matter of Mrs Warrens Professioni (prostitution), curiously the fact that it was tackled in a manner which showed the pressures that society puts on women that causes them to become prostitutes, also received a good deal of public criticism. But because Shaw believed in his own plays, and refused to change a word because of the manifestly over-sensitive feelings of some, he paved the way for much later playwrights.Take the example of Edward Bond, whose Saved in 1965 was the subject of much controversy because of its language and subject matter. The young, working-class and unemployed people in the play unceasingly swear because this is just about all they have left within a society that has brutalized them. It was bingle particular scene, in which the characters stone a baby to death in its baby carriage, which caused the Lord Chamberlain to withdraw that that subject be cut from the play or the play would be ban. As in Shaws day, whatsoever play put on in London still had to be officially approved by the Lord Chamberlain, a power dating from a 1737 law. Bond, following the Shavian tradition, refused to change that scene - aphorism that it was an essential part of the plays climax, showing the depths to which the characters had sunk. The Royal Court Theatre became a private club in order to stage the play, but the Chamberlain prosecuted the English Stage Company for producing the play even in that location. Shaw was well-known(a) to have as much sense of humor within his life as within his plays, and was of all time askance at authority that appeared to be arbitrarily used. He would thus have supported Bonds adjacent theatrical event, Early Morning (1967), a tongue-in-cheek play in which Queen Victoria has a lesbian relationship with Florence Nightingale, the princes are Siamese twins, Prince Albert and Disraeli p lan a coup throughout and then the total cast of characters is damned to be cannibalized in Heaven after falling off Beach Head. This play was perhaps designed to incur the wrath of the Lord Chamberlain in virtually every scene. He banned it, the English Stage Company ignored the banned, and the archaic power curtailment of free speech stand for by the Lord

Traditions of Western Religion - Research Paper ExampleAll the worlds major religions contain sects within it some comingle with ease while others seem to share exactly suspect and disdain. This password will first address the similar history of all Muslims then the circumstances of the split. It will concentrate on Sunni, Shia, the Druze, a Shiite off-shoot belief and Wahhabism, a derivative of Sunni. The final section explores the contemporary conflicts of Islams 2 main sects. The central belief of all Muslims is that the Prophet Muhammad, who died in 632 AD, was Allahs (Arabic for God) messenger. His revelations are recorded in the Quran and are followed by Muslims of all descriptions who also look to sayings of Muhammad, hadith, for inspiration and guidance. The concepts of justice, goodness and piety are native to Islamic practices and belief system. Furthermore, all Muslims are directed to live their lives according to the five pillars of Islam (1) shahadarecital of the confidence There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His Prophet (2) salatfive obligatory prayers in a day (3) zakatgiving alms to the poor (4) sawmfasting from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan and (5) hajjmaking a pilgrimage to Mecca once during a lifetime if one is physically and financially able. High School vs College Essay Example for Free

luxuriously School vs College EssayWe all bedt wait to get to college so we party and recognise it up. The thing is college is a lot different than in extravagantly spirits directings were as in high school you had to come through rules and in college it is your choice to be responsible for yourself. In September of 2006, I immortalise the doors of Clifton high school as a freshmen only beingness my second year in public school so this was all new to me. I got to home room and the handed out our agendas with all the rules in the clog of the book. As prison term went on we all got use to the rules not many listened, but those who did not were punish for whatever the person did. Some of the rules that we had to abide were that we could not wear shorts above our finger tips we similarly could not wear flip flops because of an incident that happened to a girl a couple years front that was not good. Ripped jeans also were not allowed the principle said it showed too much skin. Those were just some of the rules. once I got to college I realized rules no longer applied. Since I was so use to the rules in high school it took me awhile to remember that I could wear whatever I pleased without getting in trouble in anyway.Another difference between high school and college rules are in high school you can count on your parents and teachers remind you of your responsibilities and your priorities. For example if you have an hear due they help get through what you need to write the essay. They also remind you mean solar day by day when your essay is due along with your home sue and other things. In college you have to balance your responsibilities and priorities which result be hard for many people seeing that they always had help.Your college professors will give a curriculum with step by step instructions on what is due and when. If they tell you an essay is due a week from now it is your responsibility to get your work done, because they will not remi nd you as measure goes on. To professors you are now an adult and are responsible for your own time and priorities. They will not mishandle you throughout your time in college. Lastly in high school when you were absent from school you had to stick in a note as to why you were absent. Whether it was a parent/doctor or hospital note.We had five days to bring in a note you teacher would remind you every day and if you didnt it would be marked as an unexcused absents. If you were to receive three unexcused absents it would get you a cut. Once you get to college that changes your professor does not really care if you are absent because it is your grade that is being affected not theirs. As long as you show responsibility in getting your work in then your grade shouldnt be affected that much and it shows that you care about what youve befuddled and have to make up along with caring for the class. In conclusion the differences between high school and college are major things though ma ny people may not think that, but it shows who can be responsible with their priorities in college appose to high school. I have learned to manage my time a lot better since high school were everything was done for me. Though it was a little of a struggle to make the transaction it was extremely necessary or things would not get done on time or at all. Im glad that college teaches you these traits because it helps you in the long run when you enter the real world as a family person, employee and or employer.

Frankenstein Mary Shelly Essay Example for Free

Frankenstein Mary Shelly EssayShe is a reminder that even though he gave his demon intent she is still dead. It is possible he feels creditworthy for her death on some level, and now hes responsible for this monster. Shelly focuses the entire dream on death and those shutdown to Frankenstein. It gives the impression that everyone close to Frankensteins heart is tainted even his child and creation. In this paragraph Frankenstein is described as being trapped, too sc atomic number 18d to venture into his house. Instead he is confined to the courtyard, fronting with wide eye to escape onto the streets.Shelly describes the morning just as dismally as the night rain, cold, depressed atmosphere, but the visible light is growing. Morning arriving is a portrayal of hope. erstwhile Frankenstein is released onto the streets he walks around quickly, with some unknown purpose. His eye are ringed with sleep, he moves almost erratically, trying to find something and yet avoiding his mon ster. Shelly shows a paranoid man, running. Hes drenched and rickety from cold, on the point of breaking down. The picture is unwelcoming and uncomforting. Frankenstein is isolated by the rain and darkness of the black sky.Frankensteins undirected expedition continues, he speeds along pelted by rain, but time only trickles by. It seems he hopes that his stinging eyes and aching legs will numb his troubled mind. Mary Shelly quotes a poem The Ancient Mariner. It fits the degree so perfectly it appears as though it could have been her inspiration for this description. It describes a terrified man scared of whats hobby him. His follower is said to be a f responsibilityful fiend, like Frankensteins monster, close to him like a garter but evil, waiting to creep up on him.The poem itself is about sailors searching for land, searching for an mollymawk to lead them to safety. Frankenstein is also lost in the dark winding streets of Ingolstadt desperate for help. Mary Shelly brings the tension up almost as high as it can go in this section of the chapter. To keep the story flowing she cuts through the suspense with a stinger. Cleval arrives signifying the start of a new stage in the story. Frankenstein is on the point of breaking down when his old friend appears. Clevals arrival brings Frankenstein around and lightens the mood soon the monster is almost forgotten.Shelly stops using oppressive descriptions and starts describing Frankensteins interactions with his old friend. The reader moves from Frankensteins shoes to an outsider, watching the story unfold. Frankenstein is twitching and restless, terrified that the monster is still in his apartment. He acts childishly in front of Cleval making him wait downstairs while he checks to see if his nightmare is gone. Frankenstein throws open doors and charges into rooms ready to confront his ghouls and demons. Once he realizes that the monster isnt at that place he becomes giddy with joy.Mary Shelly procedes too descr ibe him as febrile and unsettled. This is noniced by Cleval, alarmed by his ostentatious laughter and wild darting eyes. Frankensteins mind may be more at ease, like the readers, but hes obviously feeling uncomfortable showing that the threat isnt gone. Frankenstein had been feed and sleep deprived for many months, and in the last few weeks leading up to the reanimation of his assembled body his life was barely there. Mary Shelly shows Frankenstein as being delirious and senseless, almost wild in the way he moved and did things.Frankenstein is finally overcome by exhaustion and he breaks down, which in turn develops into a agitated illness that renders Frankenstein helplessly weak for months. Shelly allows the necessary time for him to recover which is vital for the story. She had excitede the story so tense but it needed to continue on, so Frankensteins illness allows the tension to simmer and the plot to pull ahead onto the next chapter. As he slowly recovers things finally return to normal. Shelly gradually stops using demoralise worlds like gloom and dismal which were frequent occurrences in the winter months.Instead she describes the holly springtime and plants with buds growing stand for new life and a new beginning for Frankenstein. In conclusion, Mary Shelly uses numerous techniques to achieve the right amount of suspense and atmosphere in this chapter. She frequently applies gothic machinery to her descriptions. Shelly distorts the light the increase suspense and systematically describes drab and dreary weather to give an underlying base of gloom. Shelly continuously shows Frankenstein as being terrified, mad with fear yet relentless. His strange behaviour unnerves the reader.Shelly uses longer sentences throughout this chapter to make it appear that the time exhausted between the reanimation and meeting Cleval even longer. Shelly carefully uses the poem The Ancient Mariner (which mirrors the Frankensteins situation) to cut the tension in th e middle of the chapter allowing it to peak then plateau. Shelly moves the reader from the point of view of Frankenstein to the point of an outsider several times, not literally, but by increasing the tension and allowing it to fall, the reader occasionally feels as though they are there with Frankenstein.Shelly does all of this seamlessly, not letting any style or technique stand out and sequestrate away from the seemingly natural flow of the chapter, and still developing the atmosphere terrifically throughout. Cognitive Therapy Case Conceptualization Essay Example for Free

Cognitive Therapy Case Conceptualization EssayElena is an adolescent female, coming to the therapy process demonstrating through actions and voice communication a great deal of anxiety and overall apathy for her situation. Elena is a smart, kindly engaged Mexican American attending public high school. She opens the session with presenting problems regarding conflict over what she mightiness do after(prenominal) high school. Preliminary conceptualization from a cognitive horizon Overall, there is an obvious noticeing of disempowered regarding her adept and or ability to make smell decisions. She comes from a close-knit family, though nigh of her siblings afford travel away to seek out goals beyond those that they may feel their pargonnts are putting upon them. She has recently begun to loose academically and socially as she feels the urgency of choosing to adhere to family tradition or to go out on her accept, like her peers. Though she says she has non yet made a decision, know that cognition mediates affect and conduct (Friedburg 101).From this perspective a healer might conclude that her recent apathy toward academics and isolating herself from her peers show that she thence is letting the thoughts of I must listen to my parents drive her life perspective. It is promising from a cognitive standpoint, that she shows some jealousy toward her boyfriend and others Perhaps the anger when discussing her family dynamics and recent history is most telling that Elena could make from Becks Socratic dialogue. The pluralistic views that come from her own identity element within her biculturalism are strongly embedded, and the therapist demonstrated this by demonstrating slews of open questions. Letting Elena focus on herself as an individual kinda than a Mexican-American could lead to meaningful exploration and collaborative cognitive flip-flop to help Elena feel more(prenominal) empowered. When counseling adolescents from a cognitive perspectiv e the counselor must remember that under any fate this may be the first time that these clients might see their actions and behaviors, and question the opinions that may have perplex embedded during childhood. Elena obviously needs a relatively short-term look into these feelings due to her grades slipping and applying for colleges, if she so chooses. Asking a client what is going through your mind right now (Murdock 337) is one of the bandstand approaches to lay outning to help the client recognize their individual thought patterns. This is a question that is difficult for many adults, and though adolescents in general can be more open to change, Elenas worldview as a bicultural young woman is overpowering any other free thoughts that she might have it is culturally captivate for a young Mexican American to disregard her own thoughts and needs for the good of the familywhich Elena does in item voice (Rochlen 2009). As an observer to this case scenario, the challenge, due to age and culture, seems very difficult. The video demonstrates this strong abstract Elena has developed that exudes this overpowering disempowerment.I believe this schema of overall disempowerment is deeply embedded and will be difficult to challenge through cognitive therapy. Additionally, Mexican culture tends to see the counselor as in issue(p) and the collaborative aspect of cognitive therapy may prove to be at the least uncomfortable for Elena, if not ineffective. Elena may continue to rely on others to make decisions for her, to give her an unconditional guarantee (Corey 107), if this base belief cannot be penetrated due to adherence to cultural tradition, fear of change, or if Elena is unable to bring to bring out these automatic thoughts. Possible cognitive strategies. In general, Latino Americans traditionally have strong family bonds and honor generational wisdom (Sue 377) Through the current political venue of the United States and popular culture, Mexican-Americans may fall prey to stereotypes and inherently feel a disconnect or poor self-image American beliefs certainly account for this inner exertion Elena is feeling. Because this is pervasive and overarching in American culture where to begin with Elena in imperative. There is a lot piece of tail these feelings, and as an adolescent who is struggling the counselor should take these omnipresent cultural truths into consideration. It is promising to me that Elena is already harangue about her siblings I see this as an open door for initiating questions that challenge Elenas view of herself as a young Mexican American. I would certainly recognize Elenas frustration and give lots of positive regard as she speaks about her presenting problem. Cognitively, I would go back to Elenas conversation regarding the variable paths her siblings have chosen. I would courteously move through this aspect of cognitive therapy so as to not threaten Elenas loyalty to her family.Since Becks model is based on a leading quite a than a more confrontational approach, I would use this to my advantage to allow her to look for her emotions about her siblings and their life choices. I see this as an aspect of Elenas life experience that may allow Elena to begin to explore self-identity outside of the effects of biculturalism. Keeping the central focus of thought exploration on how she might challenge her beliefs about her life choices through reflecting on her siblings life choices may be a synthetic rubber way to allow Elena to begin connecting the deeper thoughts behind her ability to make life choices. From a cognitive perspective and the lens of cultural identity, my goal for Elena would be for her to begin pick uping that many are facing overwhelming decisions within their own cultural context. At some point everyone must decide to respect family wishes or go out on her own. Elena would be challenged to explore the beliefs she holds regarding herself as a Mexican American she could beg in to see how the complex construct is not a means to an end.Helping Elena expose automatic thoughts and change subsequent behaviors could serve to identify the struggle she will face as a bicultural woman in America today. Obviously, this grander focus this approach toward the big picture provides empowerment, but is daunting. Collaboratively, it would be exemplar to praise Elena for exploring her identity on a grander scale. At this point, I would encourage Elena to do some homework Her recent social isolation undermines her support system and exploration of self-identity.Many of her friends to do not sound as if they are struggling as bicultural adolescents Meeting with a Latino cultural group on her local college campus would be an ideal way to allow her to feel empowered as well as supported. I am sure that many others have faced this kind of multicultural dilemma in their formative years, and have come up with myriad life choices. Though I can help Elena begin to understand a nd possibly question her core beliefs that drive her behaviors, she will need safe and pertinent ways to explore them. Elena is a very intelligent young lady, and I do think from our observation that she inherently knows that as well.Finding places and people with whom she can identify will empower hernot pressuring her into making a decision about her next step in life with a goal toward hearing other stories of biculturalism in America and give her a comfortable place to explore her wishes for her own future and how she might square up congruency between her choices and her heritage. I am certain that once her belief of what it means to be Mexican-American is challenged in some authentic way, she will begin to explore her automatic thoughts about cultural identity. My hope in work with Elena from a cognitive perspective is that she will begin to see her own identity and realize how her own thoughts had created a situation that most certainly is not the completely possible scenar io for her path in life. applicable multicultural considerations From the perspective of a bilingual educator and a culturally aware individual, I was lastly unable to separate Elenas biculturalism from the cognitive approaches and questioning that I would practice with Elena.Though this aspect of Elenas life situation appears hopeless to her now, I believe through alineing authentic ways to identify with successful, independent Mexican-Americans she might begin to expose the prevailing automatic thoughts leading her to these isolating, dichotomous conclusions. The last germane(predicate) multicultural aspect that I have not addressed is it would be imperative that I find an opportunity to speak with Elenas family, and connect them with other families who are raising children in a bicultural environment. This is ideal because Latino families need opportunities to be involved in the community and support one another in myriad ways. non-productive cognitive approaches Note how at th e beginning of this integrated discourse regarding Elenas pull toward family tradition and sense of loss for her dreams of going to college I was careful to note which door felt safe and respectful to collaboratively open with Elena.Siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles may stay out of family business such as the pressure from her mother, but it would be culturally insensitive for me to have Elena challenge her thoughts and risking her attaching them to family ties. That is already were Elena is, and traditionally Mexican-Americans see the counselor as expert, which could draw long-standing family traditions and dynamics.I am convinced that approaching Elena through questions about herself, her friends, her academic life, and family would have made her feel that cognition is knowable and accessible, which is an underlying foundation of Becks theory. If a counselor were to solely base their approach, without multicultural considerations, on cognitive therapy with Elena as an individua l it could serve to not allow herself to fully feel her homo emotions, nor to bring awareness that change is central to the human process.I do not think asking Elena to explain how her beliefs construct her reality without first finding meaningful ways for her to relate to others outside of herself could she effect any change at all. Cognitive therapy, through the lens of multiculturalism, must always consider the large picture of what their life perspective really is If challenged directly about her mother Elena may have only further solidified her commitment to fail at school to have a concrete effort to obey her parents.

Purpose of the Education System Essay Example for Free

affair of the Education System EssayThe question posed is What should the education system be? This question can non be answered specifically because the education system means something different to everyone. The education system is, to an extent, what it should be, which is an institution devoted to the development of the intellect. American education should however, be much than rote instruction of mandated materials. Our children should be taught more life skills on with science and math.Children sit in rows, facing straight, not talking. They select and use educational materials in unison, and expect the teacher write on the board. The droning sound of the teachers voice attempts to fill their minds with knowledge. It sounds militaristic because it is. Students remember more of what they are taught if the material is presented in a less formal, more enjoyable atmosphere. School administrators and state agencies stupefy forth guidelines from which teachers mustiness n ot deviate. The problem is, these administrators are removed from the classroom and tend to forget that children have got changing needs. Todays teachers learn more progressive teaching methods such as portfolio assessment vs. testing, and sitting in groups instead of rows. on that point are few administrators willing to incorporate these changes into their schools. Education management needs to dispense with teachers the flexibility to teach their students using whatever methods actually work. There is no reason why children should not impression forward to school. For the most part, our education system is devoted to teaching students. There is great fear that students should be prepared to move on to higher stages of education. Tests are given periodically to gauge students progress. There is much discussion how improving education and better preparing students for the world. Students do learn, and many excel, but school is quench viewed as drudgery by most students. If our edu cation system is to prepare children for the world educators need to look more closely at curriculum. Art, philosophy, history, math, Englishand science are all important subjects. They teach us most the world around us and how things work. The social setting of the educational facilities also compels students to learn about society and what is acceptable behavior. However, are we properly preparing our students for the world? Are we teaching life skills like personal finance and relationship dynamics? Can we lower the rate of divorce or the number of broken retirees by educating students in these areas? Our education system needs to incorporate fundamental life skills into the curriculum. The focus on education should not stop at the goal to create an intelligent adult. The education system must also attempt to create a responsible citizen, an asset to the community. The American education system is not entirely broken. There are many positive things happening. Progressive teaching methods are being busy and the student is being recognized as more of an individual. America cannot stop here. We need to ask ourselves if the righteous fabric of our country can be improved through education. The education system plays a large role in our lives than any other one thing. The system needs to use this influence to improve society as a whole and people as individuals.

Lord Capulet Essay Example for Free

headmaster Capulet EssayWithin the scene where Capulet is cut across by Tybalt at his masked ball, Capulet differs again. His mood jerkyly changes from being humorous and charming to being zesty headed and flying of the handle. I believe he is short tempered and is unable to control it he becomes actually angry towards Tybalt. Why, how now, kinsman Wherefore storm you so? This demonstrates to the audience how infuriating he bed be. I hypothesize the audiences learn that Capulet is a changeable character, as he is logical and caring but he becomes crazily serious when someone tries to challenge him. He assumes people should respect his authority. In act three, Lord Capulet informs his married woman about the proposal. Lady Capulet deems Juliet will be overjoyed with the news hath sorted out a sudden day of joy that thou expectst not nor I lookd not for she has a positive view to trade union and feels all she needs is a man. She reveals the news to Juliet. At first Juliet considers the proposal as good news. barely she then says she would rather marry her enemy than marry Paris. This is amusing because she has previously married her enemy, Romeo, in secret.I will not marry yet and, when I do, I swear, I shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, rather than Paris This shows Juliet is intensely in love with Romeo. Lady Capulet says here comes your father tell him yourself. I imagine she wouldnt tell him, Presuming Capulet will go insane. As he evidently did so, I will pull back thee on a hurdle thither, out, you green- sickness carrion Out, you baggage You tallow -face This demonstrates how contrasting his thoughts really are, he can not believe she is being so ungrateful. Previously He was praising her up, saying how dearly he loves her and how betoken she is. But now he states she is worthless that Juliet is like a curse and wishes she was no longer here.In addition he told Paris that it was Juliets decision if shed like to marry him. He went back on his word and gave Juliet no choice of the matter, using his authority to over rule her, this is proof he was contradicting himself. In this time women were owned by their fathers until their time of marriage when they became airplane propeller of their husbands. Capulets goal was to find a qualified match for his darling daughter, having so Juliet refused and Capulet became immoral, he bellowed wicked things to Juliet, which today no father would dare say. I presuppose Capulet thinks he has the right to speak to his daughter in such a way because she is his property I dont think this is right, nobody should be spoken to in that manner. I sense Juliet was distressed because of this. disadvantageously to the friar, to know his remedy if all else fail, myself have power to die Lord Capulet is an over powering man, he demands and receives what he wishes, no matter if he hurts someones feelings, especially his own flesh and bloods.Overall I have discussed that Lord Capulet has two com pletely opposite sides to him. He can be kind, loving, and charming, e.g. scene one, but he can soon flip to becoming unmistakably hot- headed, controlling and malicious preparing us for his actions in scene five.

Walkers presentation of Sofia and Harpo Essay Example for Free

Walkers faceation of Sofia and Harpo EssayAlice walker uses a variety of techniques to present the characters of Sofia and Harpo during page 60 of The Color Purple. I allow be exploring a number of lexical, grammatical and phonologic choices, as well as other techniques, in the order they appear in the letter and will be discussing how these can lead to the development of attitudes and values. The introduction to the Sofia and Harpo relationship shows the reversal of the fixed stereotype perpetuated by other couples in the novel that a man should lead and a woman should follow. Previous letter depict Harpo as the feminine, subservient man, crying like his heart gon break. While Sofia is much the dominant variety in the way she is marching like going to war. In not conforming to the basic male-female stereotypes we regulate Sofia working on the roof while Harpo is happy to hold the baby and give it a kiss. However, one time Harpo sees that he is losing face he begins to ea t gluttonously as he believes that physical strength leads to role.Although this overeating could in fact be comfort eating and so is associated with his feminine image. Harpos sine qua non for control and so extends to the bedroom, where Sofia says once he git on top of me I think bout how thats where he invariably want to be. The situation here as well as the previously accumulating tensions has led Sofia to believe that she need a vacation. Walker states that Sofias sisters are all big hygienic healthy girls, the words big and strong both have very powerful connotations. The two words are used very unremarkably and are short and simple this reflects the simplicity of the sisters in terms of erudition but the physical power in terms of strength and dominance. Both words are mono-syllabic and consonance on the g endure differs between the two words. The word big is a very short sounding word and too has connotations for pregnancy and reflects how Sofias sisters can face w hat life has thrown at them in terms of relationships. The word strong, however, has a continuous sound created by the nasal sound on the n. This sound portrays an image of continuing clamber to be a woman.Walker compares the attributes of the sisters to that of amazons, a tribe of women warriors reflecting how Sofias sisters are striving to turn around the look of women as being the inferior race. An image is created of the sisters appearing to rescue Sofia from the grasps of an evil husband named Harpo. Even though Sofia is in fact similar to her sisters in terms of physical appearance, she lacks emotional strength to tackle the paradox of Harpo, as deep down she still loves him. Sofia needs to be given strength from the rest of her family to in conclusion gather enough courage to leave.

SABUNTA.COM TARGET MARKETThe target market for Sabunta.com is Nigerias upper and emerging middle-class living in major urban cities in Nigeria. The age bracket of the typical Sabunta.com customer is between 18 and 65. This age range constitutes individuals who are capable of buying or making purchasing decisions with regards to fashion items. The companys targeted customers are however less than 10% of the mentioned age range, as the company targets individuals with an annual income of not less than N2million ($12,500).Sabuntas target market constitutes of individuals who live and work in major urban cities of Nigeria such as Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna, Ibadan, Aba, Warri and Benin. These individuals frequently utilize the internet and various social media platforms to interact with friends, family and colleagues. They are fashion conscious, voguish looking and want to express their personalities with the kind of outfits they wear. They too recognize and wear pop ular international brands and shop for these brands whenever they or friends and family travel abroad.5. SABUNTA.COM STRATEGYHaving carefully studied the Nigerian e-commerce scene, Sabunta.com concluded that the major problem hindering take-off of e-commerce in Nigeria is the sceptical nature of Nigerians towards online payments. The company responded by introducing the cash-payment-on-delivery option for its customers. Though the company offers regular acknowledgement card and online payment options for those who want to do so, the cash-payment-on-delivery option was an ice-breaker it made sceptical Nigerians participate in online shopping. This enlarged the market of online shoppers, with Sabunta.com being the only company to enjoy the patronage of this new surge in online fashion shoppers. Good performance on the part of Sabunta.com further helped to enforce their dominance. On time delivery, even without having real payment, helped to instil confidence in its target market. T o reduce problems associated with deceit and theft, usually by hoodlums posing as customers, Sabunta outsourced its delivery to rosy-cheeked Star Express, a leading Nigerian Franchisee of US global messenger brand FEDEX a major courier company that has been in operations in Nigeria since 1992, known for its quality of service, Sabunta.com also introduced various practices that, though standard in mature e-commerce markets, were novel and innovative in the growing Nigerian e-commerce market. These innovations includea. Free Delivery and Return PolicyPrior to Sabunta.com entry, no e-commerce company in Nigeria offered extra delivery or allowed customers to return purchased goods. Sabunta.com entered the e-commerce scene offering a nationwide free delivery plan as well as a return form _or_ system of government which allowed customers return goods bought in spite of appearance the first 14 days if they were not satisfied with the condition in which it was delivered. To return go ods, customers are allowed to drop the purchased items at any of the 158 rosy Star Express affairs situated in all the states in Nigeria at their convenience. This reduces the cost which customers feel during the return process. The ability to purchase goods at no extra cost of delivery and to return these goods if disgruntled at minimal costs make Sabunta.com a provider of high quality at low costs attributes that appeal to the expense sensitive and yet quality sensitive Nigerian market.b. International Product OfferingSabunta.com recognizes that its target market constitutes those familiar with and who wear International fashion brands. Consequently, the company partners with sister fashion companies around the world, owned by the parent, Rocket Internet, to offer a large range of international brands over 150 different brands to the Nigerian market. Sabunta.com enhances the display of international products on its site, both those it has in stock as well as those in the s tock of its sister companies around the world. This allows the company serve the diverse international tastes of the Nigerian market, and to respond to trends regardless of its current stock.6. SUCCESSFor a company that has been in existence for less than three months in a foreign market, Sabunta.com has been able to achieve a lot of success and has been able to overcome a significant number of envisaged challenges. Sabunta.com successes includea. Exceeding Projected RevenuePrior to entering the Nigerian market, the management of Sabunta projected revenue of 15,000 from about 150 orders in the first quarter of business. This extrusion was exceeded after the companys first month of operations. The company found itself operating in a large market with a greater potential for online products than it had envisaged or planned for. The result was a restructuring of its operations to meet the demand.b. Obtaining Local SuppliesBeing an online fashion store, the ability to get local supplie rs goes a long elbow room in determining the amount of profit made. Local supply eliminates the various cost associated with getting supplies from outside the country The average mark-up for goods sold on Sabunta.com is 50%. The Sabunta.com team was concerned about getting high quality local supplies for their business as the number and industry size of local fashion suppliers were not obtainable from official records or seek archives. However, the company was pleasantly surprised at the large number of local fashion suppliers resident in Nigeria. The result has been high mark-ups on locally produced and sold products. This has lead to profitability in less time than projected.Sabunta.com currently makes an average gross profit of 40% while their operating and net profits are still in the negative.c. Finding Adequate Logistic ProvidersTo vouch timely and accurate nationwide delivery, Sabunta.com required services from delivery firms who possess best practices as well as offer cos t-effectiveness as a value proposition. The firm understood that a weak or inconsistent logistics arm (for example due to different qualities of delivery by several logistic partners) will result in negative customer perception. This challenge was overcome through a partnership with Red Star Express a Franchisee of the US international courier and logistics service provider, FEDEX, that has been operating in Nigeria since 1992.Red Star Express knowledge of the countrys transportation infrastructure aids in its optimum logistics service delivery. Moreover, Red Star Express provides support with more than just delivery and return of goods. It also collects cash from customers who chose to pay in cash upon delivery, and remits these funds to Sabunta. This saves the company costs associated with cash management.d. Recruitment of require PersonnelAnother envisaged challenge was availability of skilled local labor. Given the poor state of Nigerias I.T. infrastructure and sophistication, the company was unsure of the availability of I.T related skill sets to carry out Rockets model as practiced in various other markets. The company was however relieved to look competent local talent. Sabunta.com operates with a 100% local I.T team, capable of carrying out functions required by the Rocket model.7. CHALLENGESDespite Sabunta.com successes, the company eventts a myriad of challenges, most of which result from differences between Rockets countries of operation and the Nigerian market. Some of these challenges include a. Challenges Resulting from Socio-Cultural and Socio-Economic DifferencesUnlike successes gained in come ining and maintaining local personnel, Sabunta.com has not been able to maintain its international staff. Over seventy percent (70%) of Sabuntas international staff who started out with the company left indoors two (2) months. The reason? Inability to acclimatize to the Nigerian environment with particular regards to the type of readily available food as well as the lack of or the high costs of, basic comforts such as food, water, regular electricity supply, health services, cooking gas, transportation, internet connectivity, etc.Other reasons for the overtaking of international staff included health concerns. As at August 2012, over 90 percent of international staff who resumed operations with the company (in June 2012) were diagnosed with malaria, a tropical disease most had never experienced. unexpected costs and time associated with replacing and training international staff continues to plague Sabunta.com. b. Challenges Resulting from Unavailability of Infrastructure. Being an e-commerce company, Sabunta.com internality operations involve the use of the internet. Consequently, the company requires reliable and (preferably) cheap internet connectivity and power.Yet, neither internet connectivity nor power supply exists cheaply or reliably in Nigeria. Nigeria generates and distributes less than 4,000Megawatts barely enough to serve the nations power needs and resulting in frequent power outages. Sabunta.com spends over N640,000 (3,200) per month on diesel engine to fuel their stand-by generators, and is constantly plagued with this high cost of power. The company also has high internet connectivity expenses N450,000 (2,250) per month for a bandwidth size of 4/4Mbps. Even with such huge sums spent on internet connection, Sabunta.com continues to experience less than optimal services from Nigerian internet service providers.c. Challenges Resulting from LegislationA key component of Sabuntas strategy is offering a wide range of international brands in Nigeria, using stock held by sister companies around the world. Research and studies of Nigerian importation laws suggested that importation of fashion stock into Nigeria would be relatively easy. This left the company vulnerable to the shock it received when the first set of drop-shipment was seized at the airport by the Nigerian Customs Service ( NCS). The NCS claimed that the goods contained items that were contraband in Nigeria. Sabunta responded by removing such items from their offerings fragrance and perfumes..Notwithstanding its response, Sabunta continues to face ever present threats associated with bans on importation of fashion related items including textile, leather, clothing, and shoes. Nigerian history reveals frequent policy changes and inconsistencies with regard importation of goods into the country, long identified as a major cause of failure of businesses in Nigeria. Another challenge faced by Sabunta from the Nigerian legislation is the restriction placed by the CBN on the sale of Foreign Exchange to companies and individual except for special purposes like the importation and exportation of goods and services and also the payment of services abroad. This meant that Sabunta had to buy foreign exchange at a higher price in the black market to settle all its international staffs salary and other payments wh ich were denominated in US dollars.(Official rate is 1$=159Naira as against the black market rate of 1$=163Naira).d. Challenges Resulting from debauch Practices.Despite the absence of contraband, Sabuntas management continue to experience delays in the release of their consignment by Nigerian Customs officials. Further inquiry revealed that the logistic company they employed (FEDEX) to handle importation of their goods did not have a good relationship with the Customs officials due to the companys implemented policy of not offering bribes as is the order of the day. Sabuntas management continue to experience and consequently to sojourn alert to the constant threat of fraudulent and corrupt practices that plaque business in Nigeria. The company continues to face the challenge of local business partners who try to cut corners and deliver less. Prior to partnering with FEDEX, a Nigerian courier company was chosen and partnered with for local delivery. Similar to FEDEXs collection and remission of cash, the courier company undisturbed payment from customers on delivery. However, the company frequently fell short of its obligations in terms of timing and amount of cash remitted. The courier company also failed to report accurate figures collected from customers, and till date, owe Sabunta over 40% of payments collected. Sabunta was quick to recognize this problem and swiftly partnered with FEDEX for its logistics services. Nevertheless, other sources of corrupt practices persist especially from pocket-size independent service providers. This is particularly so with artisan related services such as plumbing, equipment repairs and means maintenance, and are frequent sources of lost funds or delayed services to Sabunta.8. SABUNTAS FUTURE THE conjugationPlans are currently being made for a merger with Kasuwa, Rocket Internets other company in Nigeria, also launched in June 2012, to form Jumia. The merger is expected to result in the biggest e-commerce retailer in Nigeria a one-stop shop for all products related to fashion and electronic items. The new website, Jumia.com, will offer a wider variety of international brands, using strategies currently employed by Sabunta. Jumia is intended to provide benefits associated with get over such as discounts and bargaining power (in relation to suppliers), while addressing current challenges faced by both companies. They include a. Staffing The merger is expected to reduce the number of required staff. This will result in the reduction of salary expenses and will result in the need for fewer international staff. In other words, international staff who have acclimatized to Nigeria from both companies may continue to provide required services to Jumia without the need to recruit and retain new staff. b. Office Space The merger is expected to result in shared office space at a cost smaller than the combined cost of Sabunta and Kasuwas current office cost. c. Fueling and Power Similar to the effect on o ffice space, the merger is expected to result in fueling and power costs that will be smaller than the combined current cost of both companies current fueling and power needs.d. Internet Connectivity More than just reduction in costs, the merger is expected to result in Jumias ability to purchase larger bandwith sizes directly from internet providers in South Africa, Europe, and North America. This will address the unreliability of internet connectivity currently faced by Sabunta and Kasuwa. e. Repair and aid It is expected that the larger Jumia will be able to partner with large and reliable providers of office and equipment repairs consequently eliminating small service providers who have corrupt or unreliable practices.9. Life - Religion Essay Example for Free

Life Religion EssayIn my opinion, thither is no specific message of life. There also is a part of me that thinks that life rattling doesnt have a signification at all. But, since I have to try to define life, I would have to say its a combination of things in your life that you are living for, or the purpose of you being on this earth. Everyone close to likely has a different purpose for being alive. Whether it is family, school, or your travel those things have a lot of impact on your life and also decisions that you make end-to-end life. In our society, many families instill faith and morals early into their childrens lives by continuing traditions or practices of religious faith. The idea of faith and moral beliefs are instilled in a person by guideing or participating in church activities and reading the Bible or other religious texts. When in that location is a sound moral foundation in a persons life it whitethorn give them the motivation through faith to build a sound structure for their life or to achieve personal goals.Simply put, a person may believe through faith that it is mathematical to achieve an education, start a family, or to have a successful business or career because of their foundation in faith. The reason why I somewhat think that life really doesnt have a meaning, is because no matter what anyone does or how well or righteous someone lives their life, in the end they still die. What happens after that? Nothing, you never come back nor will you have any anamnesis of what went on during your lifetime here on earth.A person tolerate bust their behind in working doing good for the community and everything else and in the end you still end up in the corresponding place as everyone else, good people or bad people, you die. Another reason why I believe life doesnt have a meaning is because all of the people in this beingness have to fetch, they still go through pain, they have to watch loved ones die, they still have to go t hrough heartache, and rough times.Being poor, homeless, and not having food for as single meal in the day. Where is the meaning in life when people have to wake up hungry or worry astir(predicate) where they will lay their head that night? Id say there is none when you witness at it from that perspective. In my opinion, the meaning of life is too complex for the human brain to comprehend. People tend to say that they know what the meaning of life is, but who really knows the answer. There are various opinions and schools of thought, however, most people can never and will never reach a clear understanding of what the meaning of life is. If there is meaning in life at all, then there must be meaning in suffering. ? Viktor E. Frankl. Frankl could not have said this quote any better, most people can say that they have found meaning in their life but at the same time, there are some people wondering if the only reason they are on this earth is to suffer on a daily basis throughout thei r entire lives.
